HISTORY OF OUR LAKE...

Powered by the water flow of Silver Creek and the headwaters of its own mill pond, a gristmill stood in operation for many years on what would later be known as Merry Lake.

In 1966, a farmer named Robert Cooper materialized his dream of developing the old mill site into a recreational lake. Construction first began on the dam, which measured 550 feet long, 20 feet high, and 70 feet wide at its base. Upon completion, the waters of Silver Creek and additional fresh water springs, filled the lake complete with three miles of rolling shoreline.

Merry Lake is a private lake where all plats are controlled by recorded, restrictive conveyances to insure and maintain a quality atmosphere that is, our Merry Lake community.
A gristmill (also: grist mill, corn mill or flour mill) grinds cereal grain into flour and middlings. The term can refer to both the grinding mechanism and the building that holds it.
